The following message was received from Lawton's daughter Karen
With great sorrow, my sister Kimberley and I share the very sad news that Dad passed away on 10 January 2025. He was 95 years old. We were all with Dad.
Dad’s wife Beryl (always ‘Heydon’ to Dad), who met Dad on her first day of employment with the Bank of Australasia in Brisbane, passed away in July 2022. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage. It was a friendship, a partnership and a love story. He missed her so very much.
Dad welcomed his first Great Grandson Oliver into the world in October last year. Seeing their first encounter was something special. We won't detail Dads history with ANZ and his contribution over the years. When he retired as Group Company Secretary it was a very different organisation from those early days with the Bank of Australasia in Brisbane - the Board moved from the UK to Australia, there were numerous company restructures, expansion into Asia and it was becoming clear how the digital world would change the face of banking.
Perhaps Dads greatest achievement was his family - he was so loved and he will be missed beyond words by his family and friends.
